European Union structural assistance for research breakthrough in Lithuania

What is Programme 2015?

Programme 2015 is the investment into the progress of Lithuania.

This investment exceeds LTL 4 billion, which the State, with the help of the European Union, allocates for the development of the Lithuanian system of education, research and studies. It is a historical opportunity for Lithuania to fundamentally reorganise and revise the system and to provide opportunities for children to attend comfortable and modern schools, and for vocational training schools – to train highly skilled workers who meet the demands of the labour market. Changes in the field of studies will enable national universities to substantially raise the quality of studies and encourage the best local and foreign teachers, researchers and students to choose higher education institutions of Lithuania. Research, studies and business valleys are being developed; they will help join intellectual and managerial forces and design competitive technologies enjoying demand in global markets, as well as develop knowledge receptive national economy, which generates huge added value.

It’s not just a nice and distant vision. The changes have already started; we will see the outcomes in the short run. The objective of this website is to help people learn about such changes and let them feel in the heart of these changes.

The EU financing period will expire in 2015; that year will mark the completion of projects supported by EU structural funds to which funding was allocated in 2007-2013. That’s why the changes in the national education and research system are called Programme 2015, as in 2015 we’ll all be able to assess the changes implemented with EU assistance and resulting from reforming the national higher education and research system.
